Position Description:
Are you a system engineer with good DevOps and Cloud experience?  Have you worked with technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible or OpenShift?  Do you have experience with CI / CD implementations? Are you familiar Cloud Platforms like AWS, OpenStack, or Azure?  If you have such strong technology expertise and are interested to grow into a product management role, BMC has just the opportunity for you. BMC is looking for a technology expert to join our product management team to lead our DevOps strategy for the leading ITSM solution in the world.  

As Staff Specialist Product Manager, you will be a key member of a high performing Product Management team that focuses on a strategic growth area for BMC – the delivery of our market-leading enterprise ITSM solution as a Service. Working in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and global environment, your role is to author and prioritize stories for tools & processes related to efficient, compliant and secure operations of ITSM as a Service via containers. 

The position requires deep expertise in SaaS operations and security processes and technologies, the ability to assess the impact of new capabilities on the efficiency of the SaaS operations and ultimate on the experience of our SaaS customers. Product Management experience is not required. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Product Management.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Be an advocate for our customers and for the SaaS Operations team, understand their needs, and proactively identify opportunities to improve effectiveness of SaaS operations. Document evidence of opportunities/problems to solve.
  • Interact as a cohesive team with other product managers in the Digital Service Management organization to ensure alignment on vision and strategy.
  • Collaborate with product architects, SW developers, SaaS Operations experts and other roles to translate needs & opportunities into user stories for the development teams to implement.
  • Develop and maintain an appropriately prioritized backlog of user stories for implementation as part of agile development projects.
  • Work with development team to determine scope and priorities for development sprints.
  • Develop appropriately detailed specifications for new features so that they are clearly understood by the development teams.
  • Inspire and motivate the development teams to deliver innovative and exciting solutions with an appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Act as a key gatekeeper of delivered capabilities to ensure they solve the right SaaS operations problems.
  • Over time, take on responsibility for shared components and service of the BMC Helix SaaS portfolio, such as Single Sign-on. 

  • Good technical expertise with SaaS Operations processes and cloud technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or Helm, at least 3 years of experience with SaaS operations/automation/security processes and technologies
  • Experience with automation tools, such as Ansible. 
  • Ability to work on complex technical problems and provide innovative solutions.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with team members and contacts in other teams globally.
  • Business analyst/product management experience is desired, but not required. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to communicate story rationale and build consensus.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to help develop new innovative solutions to complex design problems.
  • Must be organized, have an eye for detail, and be able to put ideas into a tangible form.
  • Effective communications (i.e. Oral, Written & Listening skills).
  • Ability to work with remote teams.
Desired Skills
  • Experience with Agile and full software development lifecycle for medium-large software projects, particularly documenting user stories, release process, and maintenance/support
  • Experience with JIRA or similar requirements system working within an Agile methodology
  • Experience documenting, managing and prioritizing needs from mostly internal stakeholders in form of stories
  • Experience with Pragmatic Framework or other Product Management practices is helpful, but not required.
